🌿 Enjoy the warm, aromatic flavor of cardamom combined with creamy vanilla in these delightful scones, perfect for starting your day.
πŸ₯ These scones offer a tender, flaky texture that pairs wonderfully with coffee or tea for a satisfying morning treat.

  • Total Time: 22 minutes
  • Yield: 12 scones

Ingredients

– 15 ounces all-purpose flour (approximately 3 cups)

– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar

– 2 vanilla beans

– 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom

– 1 tablespoon baking powder

– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda

– 1 teaspoon kosher salt

– 6 ounces unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

– 1 cup light cream (half-and-half may be substituted)

– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

– 1 ounce unsalted butter, melted for brushing on top

Instructions

1-First Step: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking.

2-Second Step: Slice the vanilla beans in half lengthwise and scrape out the seeds using a paring knife.

3-Third Step: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, vanilla seeds, cardamom, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

4-Fourth Step: Add the cold butter pieces and work them into the dry ingredients with fingers or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal with some larger pieces remaining.

5-Fifth Step: Add the cream and vanilla extract to the bowl and mix with a spatula until just combined; the dough will look like it’s barely coming together. Knead the dough in the bowl until it forms a cohesive dough.

6-Sixth Step: Divide the dough in half and flatten each into a round disc about 7 inches in diameter. Cut each disc into 6 pieces and brush the tops with melted butter.

7-Seventh Step: For special diets, substitute ingredients accordingly at each step use vegan butter, plant milk, or gluten-free flour to maintain texture and flavor.

8-Eighth Step: Bake the scones in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes until tops and bottoms are golden.

9-Final Step: Remove the scones from the oven, let them cool slightly on a wire rack, then serve warm or at room temperature for maximum flavor and enjoyment.

Notes

🧈 For easier butter incorporation, chill a large grater and freeze the butter briefly, then grate it into the flour mixture.
🌼 Substitute 2 tablespoons vanilla extract if vanilla beans are unavailable; adjust cream amount accordingly.
⏰ Keep an eye on baking time as it may vary with scone shape to avoid overbaking.
