Ingredients
– 15 ounces all-purpose flour (approximately 3 cups)
– 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
– 2 vanilla beans
– 1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
– 1 tablespoon baking powder
– 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
– 1 teaspoon kosher salt
– 6 ounces unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces
– 1 cup light cream (half-and-half may be substituted)
– 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
– 1 ounce unsalted butter, melted for brushing on top
Instructions
1-First Step: Preheat your oven to 425 degrees F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking.
2-Second Step: Slice the vanilla beans in half lengthwise and scrape out the seeds using a paring knife.
3-Third Step: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, vanilla seeds, cardamom, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
4-Fourth Step: Add the cold butter pieces and work them into the dry ingredients with fingers or a pastry blender until the mixture resembles coarse cornmeal with some larger pieces remaining.
