🍊 Candied Orange Slices Recipe offers a delightful, sweet treat with a natural citrus flavor, perfect for snacking or garnishing desserts.
🍬 This simple homemade recipe uses a gentle syrup method to create glossy, chewy slices that can be enjoyed on their own or added to festive dishes.

  • Total Time: 1 day 1 hour 10 minutes
  • Yield: 18-20 candied slices 1x

Ingredients

Scale

3 cups white granulated sugar

3 cups water

3 small oranges or tangelos, sliced into 1820 pieces

Instructions

1-Combine 3 cups white granulated sugar and 3 cups water in a large skillet or saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir occasionally until the sugar completely dissolves and the syrup boils.

2-Reduce the heat to medium and carefully add the orange slices without overcrowding.

3-Simmer gently for 45 to 60 minutes, turning the slices occasionally, until the peels become nearly translucent.

4-Remove the slices using tongs and lay them out on a wire rack in a single layer.

5-Allow the slices to dry uncovered at room temperature for 24 to 48 hours, until they are tacky but set like gummy candy.

6-Optional: Dip the slices in additional granulated sugar for a frosted look and to reduce stickiness.

7-Store the candied slices in an airtight container, separating layers with parchment paper.

🔥 Maintain a gentle simmer to avoid caramelizing syrup; restart syrup if caramelization occurs.
🔪 Use a mandoline slicer for uniform slices and halve large slices to prevent breakage.
