🌰 They offer a soft, chewy texture with wholesome mix-ins such as dark chocolate chips, raisins, and nuts for added flavor and health benefits.

  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: About 18 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 ¼ cups quick-cooking oats

1 cup white whole wheat flour

1 ½ teaspoons baking powder

1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon

½ teaspoon salt

¼ cup unsweetened applesauce

4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted and cooled

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

½ cup honey

⅓ cup raisins

¼ cup dark chocolate chips

¼ cup chopped raw walnuts or pecans

2 tablespoons chocolate chips

2 tablespoons raisins

Instructions

1-First, whisk together the dry ingredients: 1 ¼ cups quick-cooking oats, 1 cup white whole wheat flour, 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder, 1 ½ teaspoons cinnamon, and ½ teaspoon salt in a large bowl.

2-Next, whisk the wet ingredients: ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce, 4 tablespoons melted and cooled unsalted butter, 1 large egg, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and ½ cup honey until well combined.

3-Combine the wet and dry mixtures, stirring just until everything blends together without overmixing.

4-Fold in the mix-ins: ⅓ cup raisins, ¼ cup dark chocolate chips, and ¼ cup chopped raw walnuts or pecans, or use the alternative of 2 tablespoons chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons raisins.

5-Chill the dough in the fridge for about 15-20 minutes to help it hold shape.

6-Preheat your oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

7-Shape the dough into 1 ½-inch balls, flatten each to about ¾ inch thick, and place them on the baking sheet.

8-Bake for 9-10 minutes until the edges turn golden, then cool briefly on the sheet before transferring to a rack.

Notes

🍏 Use quick-cooking oats for softer cookies and rolled oats for a heartier texture.
🧈 Avoid replacing all the butter with applesauce to maintain moisture and flavor balance.
❄️ These cookies freeze well, either baked or as dough, for convenient future snacks or treats.
