Ingredients
– ΒΌ cup butter
– 2 garlic cloves
– Β½ teaspoon dried oregano
– 4 slices bread (sourdough recommended, but white or whole wheat can be used)
– 3 cups grated cheese (a blend of mature/sharp cheddar, mozzarella, and Gruyere preferred; alternatives include Swiss, Provolone, Monterey Jack, American cheese, or Brie)
Instructions
1-Melt ΒΌ cup butter, then add crushed 2 garlic cloves and Β½ teaspoon dried oregano; set aside.
2-Grate 3 cups cheese and mix. Slice 4 slices bread into thick pieces.
3-Assemble sandwiches by placing cheese mixture between half of the bread slices, then topping with the remaining slices.
4-Brush the outside of each sandwich liberally with the garlic butter mixture.
5-Heat a pan or skillet over medium heat and cook sandwiches butter side down. Cover the pan to help melt cheese faster.
6-Cook for 3-4 minutes on the first side, brush the other side with remaining garlic butter, then gently flip and cook another 3-4 minutes until both sides are golden brown and cheese is melted.
7-Remove from heat and let rest for one minute before slicing and serving.
