Ingredients
– 3 pounds beef chuck roast, trimmed of excess fat
– 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
– 6 French rolls or hoagie buns
– 12 slices provolone cheese
– 1/3 cup reduced sodium soy sauce
– 1 cup cola (not diet)
– Two 10.5 oz cans beef consommΓ© (or substitute with beef broth)
– 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce
– 1 tablespoon dry minced onions
– 1 teaspoon garlic powder
– 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
– 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
– 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
– 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
– 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
1-First, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the 3 pounds of beef chuck roast on all sides until it’s lightly browned, using forks or tongs to handle it carefully. This step locks in those juicy flavors that make your French Dip Sandwich with Tender Beef so irresistible.
2-Next, transfer the seared beef and any pan drippings to a slow cooker. Add the remaining ingredients: 1/3 cup reduced sodium soy sauce, 1 cup cola (not diet), two 10.5 oz cans beef consommΓ©, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 1 tablespoon dry minced onions, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano, 1/2 teaspoon onion powder, 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme, 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
3-Then, cook on low for 4 hours. Once done, remove the roast and place it on a cutting board to thinly slice across the grain. Return the sliced meat to the slow cooker and cook on low for another 1-2 hours so it soaks up all those savory juices.
4-After that, split the 6 French rolls or hoagie buns and line the bottoms on a baking tray. Top each with beef slices and two slices of provolone cheese, then bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit until the cheese is melted and bubbly. Finally, serve the sandwiches with the reserved Au Jus dipping sauce made from the cooker juices for that classic French Dip Sandwich with Savory Au Jus experience.
