5 from 1 review

🍯 Rich and creamy icing that perfectly complements warm cinnamon rolls for that classic bakery taste at home
🥮 Quick and easy glaze that transforms homemade rolls into a decadent treat with just 5 minutes of prep

  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

3 tablespoons (42 g) salted butter, melted Creates a softer frosting texture and eliminates the need for a mixer, adding richness

2 cups (250 g) powdered sugar Provides the sweet base and silky smoothness

3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract Boosts flavor depth

1 to 3 tablespoons heavy cream (preferred) or milk (any kind) to adjust consistency

Instructions

1-Prepare mise en place: Measure 2 cups (250 g) powdered sugar, melt 3 tablespoons (42 g) salted butter, and have 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract ready. Sift powdered sugar into a bowl to avoid lumps and get that silky cinnamon roll glaze texture. Choose heavy cream or milk based on your needs.

2-Combine base: Mix melted butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla in a bowl. Stir until combined; it might look dry at first. Whisk briskly for 1 minute to incorporate air and smooth it out.

3-Add liquid gradually: Pour in 1 tablespoon heavy cream or milk at a time, stirring after each. About 3 tablespoons gives a smooth drizzle. Go slow to hit your ideal consistency for icing for cinnamon rolls.

4-Adjust for application: For pourable roll frosting, add 1/2 teaspoon more milk. For thicker spreadable, use less liquid. Bring dairy to room temp first to prevent lumps. Whisk 1-2 minutes total.

5-Tailor for diets: Swap to plant milk for vegan, or add 1 tablespoon softened cream cheese for tang in a thick cream cheese glaze. Chill 10-15 minutes if too soft. Taste and add a pinch of salt.

6-Finish and serve: Drizzle or spread over warm cinnamon rolls 10-15 minutes post-bake so it melts slightly. Let set 15-20 minutes for shine. Perfect for soft gooey cinnamon rolls with cream cheese icing flair.

Notes

🥛 Heavy cream gives a richer, thicker frosting; if using milk, use less because it’s thinner and will make the icing more runny
🍯 Using melted butter makes a softer frosting and removes the need for a mixer – just stir by hand for perfect results
🎨 Adjust cream or milk to change thickness: more for a thinner glaze, less for a thicker frosting that’s better for spreading
