🥔 Crispy tater tot-crusted chicken bacon ranch casserole – cheesy, loaded comfort food ready in under an hour!
🍗 5-minute prep dump-and-bake wonder that’s picky-eater proof, freezer-friendly for effortless family meals!

  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

– 3 cups chopped cooked chicken for main protein

– 16 ounces sour cream for creamy texture

– 1 (10.5-ounce) can cream of chicken soup for binding and savory flavor

– 1 (1-ounce) packet ranch seasoning mix for ranch flavor

– 1 cup chopped cooked bacon for smoky salty bites

– 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese for rich flavor

– 1 (30 to 32-ounce) bag frozen tater tots for crunchy topping

Instructions

1-Step 1: Preheat and prepare the pan Set your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly spray a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray, then set it aside. This gives you a ready-to-go dish so the casserole does not sit around while the oven heats. If you are planning ahead, this is also a good time to gather all ingredients and measure everything out.

2-Step 2: Mix the creamy chicken base Grab a large bowl and add the chopped cooked chicken, sour cream, cream of chicken soup, ranch seasoning mix, chopped cooked bacon, and shredded cheddar cheese. Stir everything together until the mixture looks evenly combined. The filling should look thick, creamy, and loaded with flavor. If your chicken is in larger chunks, break it up a little so every bite gets a good mix of meat and sauce.

3-Step 3: Fold in the tater tots Next, gently fold in the frozen tater tots. You do not need to thaw them first. Keep folding until everything is well mixed and the sauce coats the tots as much as possible. The tater tots will soften a bit as they bake, but that is part of what makes the finished casserole so comforting. Try not to smash them while mixing, since you want some texture left in the final dish.

4-Step 4: Transfer to the baking pan Spoon the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Spread it out evenly so the casserole bakes at the same pace all the way across. If some tater tots peek out at the top, that is totally fine. They will brown nicely and help create that classic golden crust.

5-Step 5: Bake until bubbly and hot Bake uncovered for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the casserole is bubbly and heated through. The top should look lightly golden, the edges should be active and bubbling, and the center should feel hot when you test it. Since every oven runs a little differently, start checking near the 40-minute mark. If you like a deeper brown top, let it go a few extra minutes.

6-Step 6: Rest and serve Once the casserole comes out of the oven, let it rest for about 5 minutes. This helps the filling settle a little, so serving is easier and cleaner. Then scoop it onto plates or into bowls and serve while it is hot. A simple green salad or steamed vegetables works well on the side if you want to round out the meal.
