🧅 This Caramelized Onions recipe delivers deeply rich, sweet flavor that elevates any dish.
🍳 Achieving perfect texture comes from slow cooking and careful attention, resulting in tender, golden onions.

  • Total Time: 1 hour 5 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings

Ingredients

– 2 tablespoons oil for sautéing

– 4 medium yellow onions halved and sliced for caramelization

– 1/2 teaspoon salt to enhance flavor and help soften the onions

Instructions

1-First Step: Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a 12-inch cast iron skillet over medium heat until it’s ready for cooking.

2-Second Step: Add 4 medium yellow onions, halved and sliced, to the skillet and sauté for 5 minutes until they begin to soften.

3-Third Step: Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon of salt, then reduce the heat to medium-low to continue cooking.

4-Fourth Step: Cook the onions for 50 to 80 minutes, stirring every few minutes until they become very soft, golden brown, and caramelized. If the onions start to stick, lower the heat to low for better control.

5-Fifth Step: Use a wide pan to allow moisture to evaporate evenly and slice onions evenly for uniform cooking; consider turning up the heat at the end to achieve extra caramelization.

6-Final Step: Once done, remove from heat and let the onions cool slightly before adding them to your dish, like a topping for grilled vegetables.
