1 pound (454 g) lean ground beef
Β½ pound (227 g) bacon diced into 1-inch pieces
1 large onion finely diced
1 can (15 oz / 425 g) kidney beans drained and rinsed
1 can (15 oz / 425 g) butter beans drained and rinsed
2 cans (16 oz each / 454 g each) pork and beans undrained
Β½ cup (110 g packed) brown sugar
Β½ cup (120 ml) ketchup
ΒΌ cup (60 ml) barbecue sauce
1 teaspoon seasoned salt
Β½ teaspoon ground black pepper
2 teaspoons (10 ml) apple cider vinegar
Instructions
1-Step 1: Brown the Meat (10-12 Minutes) Heat a large skillet over medium-high. Add 1 pound lean ground beef and Β½ pound diced bacon. Stir often until beef cooks through and bacon renders fat, about 10-12 minutes. Drain excess if needed.
2-Step 2: Load the Slow Cooker Use a slotted spoon to transfer meat to a 6-quart slow cooker, leaving grease behind. Add diced onion, drained kidney and butter beans, and undrained pork and beans.
3-Step 3: Mix the Sauce Stir in Β½ cup brown sugar, Β½ cup ketchup, ΒΌ cup barbecue sauce, 1 tsp seasoned salt, Β½ tsp black pepper, and 2 tsp apple cider vinegar. Combine well.
4-Step 4: Slow Cook Cook on HIGH 4 hours or LOW 8 hours. Stir before serving; tweak salt or vinegar.
5-Alternative Cooking Methods * Stovetop: After browning, mix in a Dutch oven. Simmer covered on low 3-4 hours, stirring. Add broth if dry. * Oven: Same prep, bake covered at 325Β°F (163Β°C) 3-4 hours, stir every 30 minutes.
