🍌 Perfect way to use up overripe bananas while satisfying your chocolate cravings in one delicious treat
🍫 Rich and fudgy bars that combine the comforting flavor of banana bread with the indulgence of brownies

  • Total Time: 35 minutes
  • Yield: 16 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 1/2 cups granulated sugar

1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup butter, softened

2 large eggs

34 ripe bananas, mashed

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon salt

chopped walnuts or pecans

mini milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips

4 tablespoons butter

2 cups powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

12 tablespoons milk

Instructions

1-Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13-inch pan.

2-In a large bowl, cream together 1 1/2 cups sugar and 1/2 cup softened butter until light.

3-Beat in 1 cup sour cream (or Greek yogurt), 2 eggs, mashed bananas, and 2 teaspoons vanilla.

4-Add 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, and 3/4 teaspoon salt; mix until just combined. Fold in nuts or chocolate chips if using.

5-Spread batter evenly in the prepared pan. Bake 23-28 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.

6-For the brown butter glaze: melt and cook 4 tablespoons butter in a skillet over medium heat until it simmers and turns a light brown with a nutty aroma; remove immediately to avoid burning.

7-Whisk the warm browned butter with 2 cups powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla, and 1 tablespoon milk; add the second tablespoon of milk if needed to reach desired consistency.

8-Pour the warm glaze over the warm bars and spread gently. Let set before slicing.

Notes

🥛 Use very ripe bananas with brown spots for the best flavor and natural sweetness in the bars
🥛 For extra fudgy texture, don’t overmix the batter and slightly underbake for a moister result
❄️ These bars freeze beautifully – cool completely, wrap tightly, and freeze for up to 3 months
